I was born sometime in the mid-2000s to a family of Cubans freshly immigrated from their home country. Life in Miami was relatively okay for a while. I got to visit my family in Cuba sometimes and was generally a weird but well put-together child. Middle school happened, as it does to most of us, and I spent years on the internet cooking my brain and hanging out with people I shouldn't have trusted. Against both their and my parent's wishes, I found my identity. It took a while to push up to the surface, but I made it through.
